Katarina started skating at age five. old. She was able to prove her skill and was accepted into the Karl-Marx-Stadt Special School for gifted kids. The school where she was enrolled she met their trainer Jutta Muler. Witt placed second in the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. This marked her debut. In the years since, Witt's grace and beauty have captured the attention of everyone. Olympic victory Katarina (now Witt) took home the women's Figure Skating Gold Medal during the Sarajevo Winter Games. Then, four years after that she was able to win an even more intense race. Although she lost in the free-skating contest, gold medal was awarded to her performance on the compulsory figures as well as the program in short form. Witt was the first female to take home a gold medal in both the men's and women's figure-skating competitions ever since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt, who was a star in the film industry acting, then returned for figure skating, competed at the Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. Despite not winning an award for gold, the young skater was a hit with the spectators. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
